After months of increasing symptoms of weakness, fatigue and apparent jaundice, Yael was admitted to hospital in September, where she was diagnosed with Klatskin Tumour – a form of cancer of the gall bladder and liver. Although it does not metastasize, it is usually lethal, because by the time the patient shows symptoms, it is usually too late, as it takes over most of the liver.
At the end of October Yael underwent an operation in which the cancerous tissue was removed, but in the ten days that followed, her recovery faltered, and finally failed. Mercifully, her final days were spent unconscious and without pain. She is greatly missed by family, friends & colleagues.

אחרי חודשים של סימני חולשה, עייפות וסממנים של צהבת לכאורה, אושפזה יעל בביה’’ח ביילינסון, שם אובחנה עם סרטן הקרוי ‘קלטסקין’. אעפ’’י שסוג זה של סרטן אינו שולח גרורות, הוא נחשב קטלני בד’’כ משום שעד שהחולה מראה תסמינים, הסרטן בשלב מתקדם מדיי. מאחר ולא היה סיכוי אחר להחלמה, היא עברה ניתוח להסרת הגידול לקראת סוף אוקטובר. הניתוח הצליח, אך בעשרת הימים שלאחריו, כמו אצל מרבית החולים במחלה זו, תהליך ההתאוששות התערער ולבסוף נכשל, ויעל הלכה לעולמה אחרי כמה ימים בהנשמה ובחוסר–הכרה. משפחתה, חבריה ועמיתיה אבלים וכואבים, ואם תרצו להשאיר הערות כלשהן, אתם מוזמנים לעשות זאת למטה.
